Rising unemployment, housing foreclosures and budget cuts, are forcing Americans to reevaluate the country's economic course. Orland Bishop, founder and director of Shade Tree Multicultural Foundation in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, asserts that the frail economy is rooted in a societal disconnectedness that has also damaged the health of our environment and our communities.
"There is no longer intention in what we do, in what we know, and in what we think," says Bishop. "Things are becoming less meaningful to us." ...
