More than 100 people gathered at Westlake Park, May 30 for #YesAllWomen Live!, a rally in response to the May 23 shooting near the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) that left six students dead and dozens injured. “The act of misogynist terrorism at UCSB is just the most recent expression of hatred that all women face under patriarchy,” organizers of the Seattle event wrote. “In response, millions of women have taken to Twitter with the #YesAllWomen hashtag, revealing their stories of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of men.” According to authorities, 22-year-old Elliot Rodger stabbed three roommates at his apartment complex, then drove to a sorority near UCSB and opened fire on three women, killing two of them. He then drove to a deli where he fatally shot a UCSB student before apparently killing himself.  Rodger wrote in a document about waging a “war on women,” according to the Los Angeles Times. In a long journal entry published by the New York Times, Rodger wrote that women are “beasts” who “should not have the right to choose who to mate with.”
