What We Do
Board of Directors’ Responsibilities:The Real Change Board of Directors is a group of volunteers that has overall responsibility for governing Real Change. The board sets policy and provides knowledge, guidance, and expertise to the organization. The Board’s primary responsibilities include:
* establish the mission and goals of Real Change
* fundraising and resource development
* strategic planning
* budget development and adoption
* selection, supervision, and evaluation of the Founding Director and Managing Director
* fiscal oversight
* new program development
* recruit and train new Board Directors as needed
Board Members Share These Key Responsibilities:
Planning
* Planning for Real Change’s future
* Deciding which projects and programs Real Change will provide
* Evaluating Real Change’s programs and operations on a regular basis
Finance
* Ensuring the financial accountability and integrity of Real Change
* Overseeing an ongoing process of budget development, approval and review
Resource Development and Fundraising
* Ensuring adequate resources to achieve Real Change’s mission and implement the organization’s programs and projects
* Participating in fundraising activities
Examples of Board Activities
The Board takes a lead role in organizing an annual breakfast every fall to raise funds for Real Change in addition to other similar events. Often Board members serve as table captains, inviting prospective donors to join them at their tables in upcoming fundraising events. Additionally, Board members participate in at least 4 donor recruitment visits each year.
In cooperation with Real Change staff members, the Board just completed a Strategic Plan for fiscal years 2012 to 2014. This plan outlines the goals and direction Real Change will be undertaking for the next few years.
