Local activists, citizens and religious leaders attended an Aug. 21 rally in Pratt Park to show solidarity with people who were protesting in Ferguson, Mo., where a police officer shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown. At the time of his death on Aug. 9, Brown, who was black, was unarmed. The teenager’s death sparked numerous protests, including some where protesters clashed with police officers armed with riot gear and tear gas. The local rally, sponsored by the Seattle branch of the NAACP, drew more than 150 people.
