great article, thanks, the rags to riches horatio alger stuff does get in my head.  Its hard out there looking for work, and I often feel like its my fault, or I am not tough enough, and yes other people do it and hey I think its healthy to quit jobs too, especially if they are treating workers badly, but many of my friends and folks think that is “scary” and one should never do that to a job unless they have a job..well, its frustrating democracy in the workplace is important..the term boss is offensive and anti democratic,. collaboration seems to make sense in a democracy and on the job is an extension of that…anyway, these councils or meetins of like folks, where are they?  I would love to be part of one..

thanks again..Real Change is really a good newspaper..

It has been five years since some neighbors and I started showing a once-a-month documentary on environmentalism or community building for free to our neighborhood.  We decided to stop with our last show on the June 11th.  We had a good run, but I’ve noticed how things have changed.

People are full up with information now, shocking information, and it has gotten too hard to handle.  There appears to be a massive malaise.  The bigger it gets, the more privately it is carried.  I now agree that signing petitions, writing postcards, watching documentaries, reading blogs, making calls to politicians are no more effective than changing a few light bulbs.  We need to talk to each other, to at least say “Hi, I don’t like or trust what I see coming down”, because probably by now at least every other person is in real inner terror if they think.  Thinking together and standing together is the next phase.  Put down the phone, the pen, the computer and start looking everyone in the eye… and talk.

We don’t have lots of time.

Talking is good, but acting together to really build the new business, social, meaningful work model that will distribute resources in an equitable manner that a real democracy would cherish.

In Seattle i am working to create a support local talent month for August. It started as an arts installation (My own “Species on the Verge”) but I needed a bigger statement to envelop my current knowledge. So I am asking the libraries to promote local writers, an Eco fashion show will be connected to the show and I am seeing how to create pop up 1 or 2 day gust artisan areas to spread the news, a big show and tell month for the city of Seattle. We are more than grunge and coffee.

I know that by supporting each other, we all benefit. It
