Mayor Jenny Durkan announced Thursday that she would begin a review of Seattle’s harassment and discrimination policies. The decision comes in the wake of an avalanche of stories from women about sexual harassment in the workplace, including at Seattle City Light.
An interdepartmental team will speak with employees and use feedback from a citywide employee survey, updated to include anti-harassment questions for the first time. Anti-harassment training will be expanded.
“This is the first step toward changing policy, norms, and workplace culture. We must be bold in our actions and act with urgency and compassion to listen to those who have been silenced or ignored, and ensure that every worker and workplace is free of harassment, assault, and retaliation,” said Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda.
