Walking down dark lanes, hopes awhirl,
Planning on a necklace of pearls,
While all the store windows shone bright.
Sad, I had no money that night.
There were many nice things to buy;
Silk gowns, with silver shoes supplied
All clothes on sale, the price right.
Sad, I had no money that night.
Wandering along through the streets,
I spied fabulous foods to eat.
The stores closed at last evenings' light.
Sad, I had no money that night.
