House Rep. Bob Hasegawa’s run for the Washington state Senate opened up space for new blood in the Washington state House of Representatives.
Two political newcomers each hope to fill the District 11 Position 2 seat. Seattle Tea Party Republican Sarah Sanoy-Wright faces Democrat Steve Bergquist, a teacher and business owner from Renton.
Sanoy-Wright emigrated from the Philippines to Seattle in 1981 and has worked as a day care assistant and senior caregiver. She supports fully funding public education while reforming under-performing school programs. She supports limiting taxes and unnecessary regulation on businesses. She said lowering the cost and complexity of running a business would help create jobs.
Bergquist teaches social studies and contemporary world issues at Lindbergh High School and runs Ace Tennis, a tennis store in Renton. He said the legislature, which has no teachers, has failed to properly fund education. He also supports streamlining regulations for small businesses to create jobs.
