I object to the sour comments re: the Dalai Lama in Jim Page’s letter to Real Change (Aug. 1, 2012).
The Dalai Lama has been and is still a great symbol for the Tibetans.
When I was in Tibet in 1995 and earlier in Ladakh, I spoke to people who looked up to him. Also in Tibet I saw the physical and cultural destruction by the Chinese. This is ongoing.
The Dalai Lama worked hard during his life to try to bring the Chinese to some sort of recognition of Tibetan wishes and culture.
