Steven is in his mid-50s, and having worked all his life, he now finds himself unemployed. He is married with kids, one still at home. He is, like so many, a victim of the Great Recession engineered by Corporations and their banksters. Neither political party speaks for him or really cares whether he lives or dies. He is one of thousands facing the end of unemployment aid.
Meanwhile, business is booming in the armed services, and their partner, the private mercenary Corporations. Killing others, particularly those with darkened skin, is still an expanding market opportunity. This coming year our war budget escalates up past $800 billion. Troop levels in Afghanistan go up past 100,000, with an additional 100,000 drawn from Corporate mercenary services. And, if you can play video games you might even land a job killing dark-skinned people from the luxury of your own private cubicle in some office building here in the good ol' USA. The great thing about drone warfare is that we can demonically slaughter without guilt or shame: the perfect soldier.
Of course, occasionally somebody that supposedly matters will die: one of our own. More than 5,000 have given their lives for the Corporate cause. Some 320,000 have suffered traumatic brain injuries, suicide rates are up, mental health hospitalizations are way up, and well over 100,000 veterans patrol our streets at night, homeless and betrayed. But they have served their function and are of no importance anymore. Heck, most of them are poor and have darkened skin
