Wed., March 10, 2:55 p.m., Virginia Street. Officer was dispatched to investigate a report of an assault that occurred near the Pike Place Health Clinic in Post Alley. Upon arriving he contacted the victim, a transient female, who was being treated for minor injuries inside the clinic. She stated she was walking eastbound on Virginia Street with the suspect, a male acquaintance. As they walked up the hill the suspect saw an unattended backpack near a doorway. Victim stated the suspect grabbed the backpack to claim as his own, even though he was not the owner. Victim stated she tried to prevent the suspect from taking the backpack, but he punched her in the arm, and then grabbed her hair and threw her to the ground. He then ran eastbound on Virginia with the backpack. Victim does not know who the backpack belonged to, or the value. She was by the Pike Place Health Clinic, so she went inside to seek medical attention. She had a scratch on her arm but stated she did not sustain any other injuries from the assault. Officer completed an area check, but was unable to locate the suspect.
Fri., March 12, 3:11 p.m., Twenty Fifth Avenue South/South King Street. Officer on patrol was dispatched to investigate an assault that occurred on 25th Ave. S. and S. King St. at Nickelsville, a tent camp hosted by a church for local transients. Upon arrival, victim stated that there was an intoxicated man inside that had assaulted several people. Officer could see the suspect who was still inside the camp, yelling at people. He contacted the suspect, who was highly intoxicated. When officer asked what had happened suspect stated that everyone inside uses drugs, but he had been kicked out. Officer interviewed the victim, who said that suspect was in violation of camp rules, which specified no drugs, including alcohol. He had asked suspect to leave the camp and not come back, which had made him angry, and he had shoved victim off his chair. Another victim came over and said that suspect had also hit her several times on the arms. Further medical attention was declined by both parties. Both victims stated they did not want the suspect arrested, but wanted him to gather his belongings and leave the premises. Suspect had many belongings and would need multiple trips to remove his things. Officer asked suspect if he would be willing to remove his belongings and not come back, but suspect stated he would return regardless. He kept spewing insults, and was taken into custody and transported to the East Precinct. He began to calm down significantly as he sobered up. He was advised that he should return to the camp and remove his belongings, and was released from the precinct. He did return to the camp and remove his belongings peacefully.
