The vulnerable roadway users bill, SB 5838, is dead for this legislative session in Olympia, as it has failed to get a vote in its house of origin.
The bill would have created stiffer penalties for drivers who, through negligence, hit and seriously injure or kill a pedestrian or bicyclist ["Pedestrians, bicyclists want hasher penalties," Nov. 11, 2009]. The bill passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee, but did not receive a vote in the full Senate.
