On Fri., July 31 the North American Street Newspaper Association (NASNA) announced the winners of its 2009 awards at a ceremony in Denver, Colo. Encompassing a variety of diverse categories such as Best Interview, Best Series, Best Vendor Essay and Best Cover Design, the awards celebrated the increasing popularity and high-quality journalism displayed by North American street papers. NASNA Executive Director Andy Freeze said, "The contribution of North American street papers to the communities they serve cannot be underestimated. The past year has seen a huge surge in the popularity of street papers in cities across America and the NASNA Awards has been a way of recognizing the great and important work they provide."
