This summer, countless conversations and news reports have centered on the region's triple-digit temps. But those aren't the only seasonal numbers worthy of attention.
Between May 25 and Aug. 10, 14 homeless people have lost their lives. The causes of deaths have been varied, yet even within the variations, a few patterns have emerged.
Two deaths resulted from suicides: James J. Bohrer, 40, jumped in front of a Sound Transit light rail train on July 27, a little more than a week after the light rail began service; and Philip Carrasco leapt to his death from the 12th Avenue Bridge on Aug. 5. So far this year, five people on the streets have taken their lives; last year, the total was six.
