Our nation has a seriously atrophied political memory. The Corporate media, lapdogs of our Corporate politics, themselves lapdogs of our Corporate military, tie up their undies in a bunch trying to whip up moral hysteria and bloodlust concerning the recent events in Tehran. One would think that all those millions of dollars that Bush started funneling into Iranian covert operations a few years back, and that Obama continues to funnel, had nothing to do with the recent events of the great vote fraud scandal.
Meanwhile down in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, friend and ally of the U. S., our trained and equipped military disciples overthrow democracy, arrest and deport the democratically elected government, close down the media, arrest journalists and impose a state of siege, but one might notice barely a whisper of outrage from our national pulpits.
For example, has anyone been watching CNN showing repeatedly the 60,000-person teachers union strike that courageously formed in resistance to the coup? Of course not. The Coup-sters, at one point, even shut CNN down. Hmmm... didn't know that, did you? Campbell Brown didn't seem too outraged. Must have been all that important death of a child molester non-stop coverage that edged the unimportant out.
Unimportant stuff like why was President Manuel Zelaya overthrown? What great, horrible, no-good sin had he done that so pissed off the United States trained and coordinated military of Honduras? Could it have been that a few, small reforms like the raising of the minimum wage might have upset the pigs at the trough that run the country? Could it have been that President Zelaya was discovering more in common with other Central and South American democracies rather than American oligarchy? And, mindblower of them all, could it have been possible that the conservative reformer Zelaya actually, dare I say it, cares about his people?
Well, Uncle Sam sure can't have any of that going on down there in our slave pits. And even though our own fearless leader has been forced to show public disapproval, one might notice barely a pinky lifting from his Corporate controlled hand.
My point here, folks, is that if we were capable of retaining a political memory, we'd surely know that what we got here is good old fashioned imperial rollback. Uncle Barack's military and intelligence gangsters are flexing the muscle to win back the market share for their, and our, Corporate sponsors. In other words: There are no coups in Tegucigalpa without permission from that outhouse known as the White House.
Tehran got us all in an erotic frenzy of bloodlust. The breathing was hot and heavy but that news cycle is gone, mere foreplay awaiting the next manufactured outrage. Meanwhile, down on our plantations, law and order is being imposed. To paraphrase that ol' good times warrior, Ronald Reagan, "It's mourning in Central America, and we ain't seen nothing yet!"
