Thurs., May 28, 1:31 a.m., 600 blk First Avenue. Officers were dispatched to a 911 hang-up call from a pay phone in Pioneer Square Park. The park is clearly marked with signs saying it is closed between 11:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. They contacted the subject, a transient black male aged 53, who could not tell them why he called. He stated he was part of the secret service, but could not elaborate on why he needed the police. He dropped to his stomach in the prone position without asking, and it took several minutes to get him back on his feet. Subject was making statements that made no logical sense, and officers quickly realized subject suffered from some sort of mental problem. He did not appear gravely disabled or a threat to himself or others, so he was not considered for an involuntary mental health commitment, however subject did refuse to leave the park, and it was after closing hours. Subject was arrested for criminal trespass and booked into King County Jail.
Fri., May 29, 3 p.m., 15th Ave. NW. Officer responded to Seattle Fire Station #18 after the victim, a transient white male aged 50, had come seeking aid after an assault. Officer arrived at the location, and then relocated to Swedish Medical emergency room in Ballard, where victim had walked. Officer contacted the victim there, who stated he had been holding a begging sign under the Ballard Bridge when the suspect walked up. Victim had never seen him before, and when suspect offered to sell him crack he declined. Suspect then struck the victim with his fist on the left side of his face. Victim fought back, and was struck twice more. Suspect then left on foot, and victim walked to the Fire Station, where he was found to be not seriously injured.

He pulled up his jacket sleeve, and officer saw dozens of fresh cuts on his arm, located between wrist and elbow crease. Subject stated he had cut himself with a broken bottle he had found in an alley, and was not a cutter -- he intended to hurt himself. He stated he is currently homeless and unable to get back into school. He has been kicked out of Job Corps, and out of a youth shelter, and that he has been depressed for a while now.
