Mon., Oct. 20, 6:43 p.m., Third Ave. N. / W. Mercer St. Officer was dispatched to the intersection of Third Ave. N. and W. Mercer St. to check for a mentally disturbed male wandering in and out of traffic and yelling at passersby. Officer arrived on the scene and found that two of his fellow officers had already contacted the subject, a transient white male aged 44. They stated that subject had been running in and out of traffic with no concern for his safety, and has been swinging his backpack at people. Officer contacted the suspect and advised him he was going to frisk him for weapons. Subject was compliant, and officers found no weapons. Police called an ambulance and reported their location, and stated they would need subject transported for a mental health evaluation. During officer's conversation with the subject, the officer became increasingly concerned with his well being. Subject seemed very disoriented, could not concentrate, and could not say where he was. At one point he asked for the officer's gun, so he could kill himself. He said that he hates people because they are evil, and prefers to live in the woods "like a bear." He repeatedly broke down and cried during the conversation, stating he was a failure and didn't want to live. Officer was still speaking to subject when an ambulance arrived. Subject was assisted into ambulance and transported to Harborview for a mental health evaluation.
Wed., Oct. 22, 3:56 p.m., SW Holden St. Officer on routine patrol was dispatched to the West Seattle Psychiatric Complex on SW Holden for threats of suicide. Subject, a transient white female aged 50, called 911 to request an ambulance as she was having thoughts of suicide. An ambulance arrived and contacted the police, stating they would keep the scene secure until officers arrived. Police arrived to find the subject speaking with a doctor. Officer overheard subject stating, "I will kill myself if I stay here." It was determined that subject needed to go to the hospital. She was checked for weapons and transported to Harborview for a mental health evaluation.
Wed., Oct. 22, 5:03 p.m., 13000 block Aurora Ave. Suspect, a transient white female aged 35, was observed by officers sitting at the bus stop on the west side of Aurora Ave. Officer believed he had seen suspect several hours earlier walking northbound on Aurora Ave. within sight of the bus stop. A number 358 bus came by, stopped at the stop, and left, but subject remained seated at the bus shelter. Officer contacted the subject for loitering, and to investigate possible vice activity. Suspect had no ID, but provided her name and date of birth, and stated that she had a warrant out for her arrest. A records check via radio verified the warrant, and suspect was arrested and booked into King County Jail.
